Deck Staining from Elite Trade Painting
Decks are more than just additions to your Vancouver home – they allow you to make better use of your outdoor areas. They’re extensions of your living space and they are central to some of your favourite memories when it comes to gatherings of friends and family. However, because decks are made from wood, they are subject to fading and degradation. Deck staining from Elite Trade Painting can help protect not just your investment, but your future memories.
Choosing the Right Stain for Your Deck
There is a very wide range of stain-related products on the market today and they’re not all created equal. At Elite Trade Painting, we begin by helping you decide on the right stain for your deck, stairs, railings, posts, trellises, benches, and other elements. From solid stain to semi-transparent, we walk you through your options and help you choose the right product to achieve the look you desire as well as the long-lasting protection that you deserve.
How Does the Deck Staining Process Work?
At Elite Trade Painting, we believe in delivering the best possible results to our Vancouver-area customers, and that begins with the right preparation for deck staining. Before we do anything, we pressure wash your deck and all associated components to remove dirt, debris, pollen, mould and mildew. Next, we scrape, sand, and caulk the deck. Finally, we apply the stain (no priming is necessary, as all stains are self-priming).
The actual application method will depend on the type of stain you choose. If you opt to use a solid stain on your Vancouver home’s deck, we can use brushes, rollers, and even sprayers. However, if you decide on a semi-transparent stain, we will use brushes and rollers to achieve the right finish and ideal aesthetic.
Caring for Your Deck
Your deck must put up with a lot. It is exposed to the elements all year long – rain, snow, sleet, hail, and harsh sunlight take their toll. However, your deck is also subject to foot traffic, salt and de-icer, shovelling, and a great deal more. All of that leads to wear and tear, and your deck will need to be re-stained regularly in order to look its best. We recommend cleaning and recoating floors, steps, and rail tops every one to two years. Every three to five years, we recommend recoating the upright sections (rails, posts, etc.).
